Postdoc Fellows
Yingbai HU received the Ph.D. degree in computer science from the Technical University of Munich, Munich, Germany, in 2022. From 2022 to 2023, he was a Research Postdoctoral Fellow with from the Technical University of Munich, Munich, Germany. He is currently a Research Postdoctoral Fellow with Multi-scale Medical Robotics Center, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, China. He severs as the Associate Editor for the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) and the Guest Editor for a couple of journals. He was a recipient of the 2020 Best Paper Finalist on IEEE Transactions on Mechatronics, the Best Conference Paper Award in Advanced Robotics at the IEEE International Conference on Advanced Robotics and Mechatronics in 2020. He has published several articles in international conferences and journals. His main research interests include imitation learning, reinforcement learning, optimization control and medical robot.
Xuyang REN B.Sc./M.Sc. in mechanical engineering (Tianjin University, Tianjin, China; 2016/2019), Ph.D. in biorobotics institute (Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna, Pisa, Italy, 2023). Main research interests: endoscopic devices, medical robotics, and soft actuators for medical applications.
Yisen HUANG received the B.Eng. degree in vehicle engineering from the Central South University, Changsha, China, in 2019 and the Ph.D. degree in surgical robotics from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, in 2024. He is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Multi-scale Medical Robotics Center, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong. His research interests include medical robotics, visual servoing, and optimal control.
Shunlei LI received his Ph.D. in Robotics from the Department of Advanced Robotics at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, Genoa, Italy, in 2024. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, focusing on medical robotics and artificial intelligence. His research interests include robotics, artificial intelligence, and deep learning.
Wanyu MA received the B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees in control science and engineering from the Harbin Institute of Technology, China, and the Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong SAR. She is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Surgery, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Her research interests include robot manipulation, machine intelligence, and human-robot interaction.
Zixiao CHEN received his M.E. from Northwest A&F University, Yangling, China, in 2016, and Ph.D. degrees in in mechatronics engineering from the University of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand, in 2023. He is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow with the Chow Yuk Ho Technology Centre for Innovative Medicine, Multi-scale Medical Robotics Centre, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China. His current research interests include soft robotics, bio-inspired robotics, and medical robotics.
Zhiwei CUI (Member, IEEE) received the master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Beihang University, Beijing, China, in 2016, and the Ph.D. degree in mechanical engineering from Tsinghua University, Beijing, in 2020. He is currently a Post-Doctoral Fellow with the Chow Yuk Ho Technology Centre for Innovative Medicine and the Multi-Scale Medical Robotics Centre at InnoAIR, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China. His current research interests include medical robotics, cable-driven robotics, neural networks, and industrial robotics.
Ruoyu XU received the B.S. degree in mechanical design, manufacturing and automation from from Hefei University of Technology, Hefei, China, in 2015, the M.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Huazhong University of Technology, Wuhan, China, in 2018, and the Ph.D. degree in computer and information engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, in 2024. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow with the Multi-scale Medical Robotics Center, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong. His research interests include the design, dynamics and motion control of robotic systems.
Haihong LI received the B.E. degree in mechanical engineering from the Chongqing University of Arts and Sciences, Chongqing, China, in 2016, and the M.E. degree from Central South University, Changsha, China, in 2019. He got the Ph.D. degree in Automation, Computer Engineering, Signal and Image Processing from INRIA, Centrale Lille, France, in 2023.
PhD Students
Yehui LI received the B.Eng. degree in mechanical engineering from South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, China, in 2018, the M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in surgery from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, in 2021 and 2024, respectively. His research interests include medical robotics and soft robotics.
Yitian XIAN received the B.Eng. degree in energy and power engineering from University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Shanghai, China, in 2018, and the M.Sc. degree in robotics with distinction from University of Bristol, Bristol, UK, in 2019. He is currently working toward the Ph.D. degree in surgery from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research interests include neurosurgical robotics, motion planning, and safe surgeon-robot interaction.
Ben NG received his B.Eng. in Biomedical Engineering from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), in 2019. He has just started to study toward his Ph.D. degree in Surgery also from CUHK. His research interests include applications of AI techniques, especially Deep Learning (DL), in the field of surgical robotics.
Xiao LUO received the B.S. degree from Chongqing University, Chongqing, China, in 2018. He received the M.S. degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, in 2021. He is currently working toward the Ph.D. degree with the Department of Surgery, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, China. His research interests include the development of surgical robots, motion planning, and force control.
ZOU Limin is a PhD student at the Chinese University of Hong Kong with a background in clinical medicine, neuroscience, and biomedical engineering. Her research spans surgical robotics, including a semi-autonomous brain biopsy system. She has contributed to multiple peer-reviewed publications and holds patents in medical device innovation. Her current focus is on developing advanced temperature prediction and control systems for precision bone grinding in surgery, combining her expertise in both engineering and medicine.
Yichong SUN received the B.Eng. degree in mechanical engineering from Chongqing University, Chongqing, China, in 2020, and the M.Eng. degree in mechanical engineering from Harbin Institution of Technology, Harbin, China, in 2022.
He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree with the Department of Surgery, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong. His research interests include design, sensing and control of medical robots.
Yi-Song ZHAO is a PhD candidate in the Department of Surgery at The Chinese University of Hong Kong. His research focuses on the application of soft robotics in surgical procedures and in-body navigation. He is particularly interested in the development of surgical robots, with a strong emphasis on human-robot interaction, single-crystal ultrasound, and photoacoustic imaging. Zhao aims to enhance surgical precision and safety through the integration of advanced technologies, contributing to innovative solutions in the field of minimally invasive surgery.
MPhil Students
CHAN Wai Shing received a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, in 2022. He has worked as a research assistant at Multi-scale Medical Robotics Center, Hong Kong for 2 years after graduation. He took part in prototype design and modeling of multiple projects. His research interest includes medical robotics and magnetic-guided system. He is now a MPhil student in Department of Surgery, CUHK. His current research focuses on the topic of magnetic countertraction for gastric and colonic endoscopic submucosal dissection.
JIANG Zixing received his B.Eng. degree in Electronic Information Engineering from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, China, in 2023. He is currently pursuing a M.Phil. degree in Surgery at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, China. My working experience reflects a strong background in R&D, 3D prototyping, and cross-functional team collaboration to deliver innovative solutions.
Ke XIE received a B.Eng. degree in Vehicle Engineering from Central South University, Changsha, China, in 2021, and an M.Phil. degree in Surgery from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2024. He is currently working as a Research Assistant, focusing on AI techniques in medical imaging, such as object detection and segmentation.
Cam YANG graduated from university in 1998 and obtained M.E. degree from Wuhan University of Technology in 2004. He worked in Northern China Industrial, ZTE, and Huawei in Mainland, China. He came to Hong Kong through Quality Migrant Admission Scheme in 2014 and work in HKSTP for many years. He has good work experience in the field of wireless communication products.
Ai DONG received the Ph.D. degree in mechatronic engineering from the State Key Laboratory of Robotics and Systems, Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China, in 2021. From 2022 to 2024, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the department of mechanical and automation engineering, The Chinese University of Hong Kong(CUHK), Hong Kong. He is currently a research associate at the department of surgery, CUHK. His current research focuses on the modeling and control of surgical robot using deep learning and reinforcement learning approaches.
I am Tai Kwun LAM Leo. I studied the Bachelor degree in Electronic and Information Engineering in The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Master of Science in Electronic and information engineering in The City University of Hong Kong and Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering in The Chinese University of Hong Kong. I have been working as the electronic engineer since 2016. I mainly worked on electronic system design for IOT devices.
Dongming HAN received the B.Eng. degree in mechanical and electrical engineering from Chongqing University, China, in 2021, and the M.Sc. degree in aerospace manufacturing engineering from Beihang University, China in 2023.
Dongming has over 3 years’ experience in medical robotics research and robotics design development, focusing on force and position mixture control of the robot, design and control of the robot for digestive tract scene.
I am Yuxin HAN, Jessie. I received Bachelor Degree in Law from Yunnan University of Finance and Economics , majoring in Social Work, and M.S.W from The Chinense University of Hong Kong in 2022. I have been working in robotics, innovation and entrepreneurship field over 2 years. I am responsible for administrative operation and finance, hopefully, to make more contributions to our lab.
