Opening

Robotics is a well accepted solution to the problems of the aging society, including labor shortage, caring of the elder, medical treatment, etc. In the student open projects, I wish to give the students a platform to develop their own robot with the knowledge learned in the class and try to solve the challenges in the aging society as Hong Kong.

Four of the key areas are:

1) Surgical robotics and instruments

2) Assistive robot, such as rehabilitation robot and exoskeleton

3) Biomimetics in robot locomotion, sensing, actuation, etc.

4) Human Robot Interaction (HRI)

The Advanced Biomedical Robotics Lab is closely related to Multi-Scale Medical Robotics Center and Chow Yuk Ho Technology Centre for Innovative Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong is seeking for qualified candidates to work on medical robots. The available positions include:

Research Assistant Professor (RAP)

The department of surgery of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is seeking for
one passionate Research Assistant Professor (RAP) candidate for intelligent collaborative
medical assistive robot research.

The RAP is expected to have a PhD degree in robotics related subjects and with at least one year postdoc experience in one of the following areas: 1) intelligent medical robots design, modelling, control, and pre-clinical experimentation; 2) medical image AI, including dataset development, deep-learning methods for medical image analysis, and multi-modal AI perception for robot collaboration/interaction.

The RAP is expected to work together with the research team to: 1) conduct research and take charge of the identified research area and generating high impact research papers in the field of intelligent medical robots; 2) support the Lab director in coordinating the research project and profiling impact stories with the research outcome; 3) mentor junior research team members (e.g., postdocs, research assistant, and postgraduate students) in their research; 4) participate and support in external major grants application with the Lab director. The RAP is also expected to apply for external competitive grants as Principal Investigator (PI), such as general research fund (GRF), innovation and technology fund (ITF), and National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), under the guidance of the Lab director.

We offer a highly competitive package, including salary, seed fund, medical benefits, gratuity, annual leave, etc. The initial contract will be three years.
